Leon County Commissioners

Leon County commissioners took the following action during their Tuesday meeting:

Confirmed the hiring of David McDevitt as director of growth and environmental management. McDevitt has been serving as interim director since December, when former director Gary Johnson switched jobs to become head of the county's minority and women's business enterprise program. McDevitt has worked for the county since 1990.

Approved an agreement with Kimley-Horn and Associates to complete a project development and environmental study for the proposed Lake Jackson ecopassage. The ecopassage would allow turtles and other wildlife around Lake Jackson to safely cross U.S. Highway 27. The Florida Department of Transportation has already given $60,000 for the study, which will make the ecopassage project eligible for federal dollars.

County Commission meetings are held at 3 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the courthouse. The meetings are televised live on Comcast Channel 16 and also can be seen on the Web site www.leoncountyfl.gov. For more information, visit the Web site or call 488-9962.
